Another small creek to cross. Box Canyon Creek is in the background. We just spoke with
a group of people coming down from Rachel Lake, and they stated that from here the trail
got really steep. It would take about an hour to get to the lake from here. So
we had traveled
three miles from the trailhead. Because it was getting late (5:30pm), we decide to
head back.

Looking across the stream mentioned above. Box Canyon Creek is in the background.
Being curious and wanting to find the location of the Reed encounter, I may come back
here later this summer. As noted on the new map I drew, the location of the
encounter
could be a few hundred feet NORTHWEST of Rachel Lake. Meaning it would be on
the far side of the lake.

The journey back.

Another view of Box Canyon Creek.

A secluded snow bank along the trail.

Close up of the snow bank. This was the only snow we encountered during the hike.

Looking up the north side of Box Canyon. It took us almost three hours to reach the
point
where we decided to turn back. It only took an hour and a half to get back to the
tailhead where we parked. We had to purchase a trailhead parking pass in order to
park at the trailhead. We did that at the Cle Elum ranger station after we left
Roslyn
and headed back towards Snoqualmie Pass and Kachess Lake. (See Map)
