CHARPY's MILESTONE TIMELINE

MAY 2004

01 - After a three week trip to South Korea, and no exercise, I jumped up to 207 pounds.  I've started a
new Weight Chart.

JANUARY 2004

I've not really taken full advantage of the extra credit time I've been earning.  Seems it's put to better use by taking a day off here and there.  And those lunch dates with the ladies....
Time to get on the ball.  Sometime in January I will finally put into place a new plan to enhance my fitness.  Stay tuned!

OCTOBER 2003

The Bremerton-Seattle Passenger Ferry was discontinued.  Because of this and the current Auto Ferry schedule, I now have to work 1 1/2 hours extra every day.  I'm lucky that it counts as credit.  Because of that, I am now able to play basketball up to three times a week (usually Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday).  Let's see if this can get me back into excellent shape

JUNE 2003

I've been playing basketball a couple times a week and even attempted to run from time to time.  The heels still hurt, but I've gotten used to the pain.  I've been able to keep my weight around 190.

DECEMBER 2002

06  I fell off the top of a 10 foot ladder while putting Xmas lights on the house.  I landed on the concrete on my feet.  Even though I twisted an ankle, the big problem was that I badly bruised both my heels.   I was out of work for two days, and took a cab up to work from the ferry for about two weeks.

OCTOBER

07  The plan was working perfect.  Didn't miss a day.  My weight was around 180 when I got a shin splint after playing basketball on this day.  It was my ankle on my right side.  First time I had ever had a shin splint...and it hurts.  I continued to go to work, although it was painful.  I actually took a TAXI to work from the ferry dock two times, mainly because I didn't want to aggravate the muscles.  Hope to continue the dedicated exercising around the 16 or 17th.

01  On this day I stepped it up and promised to run 4 times, and ride the bike 3 times a week.  That's something everyday, besides playing ball 2-3 times a week

SUMMER

I  didn't exercise as much as I should, but did not quit.  I was running twice and riding the bike once a week on average.  Not too bad.   I managed to stay under 185.

MAY 2002

27  Ten days after reaching 177, I'm now at 181.  I know, it's going the wrong direction.  Have to focus, and stay focused.  You can follow my progress here.

17  With a little effort, I got my weight down to 177.  That's only four pounds off the record set last June 22nd.  Now if I pick up my pace just a little (which would be easy) I can get under 174, even 170.

MARCH-APRIL

These two months have been "blaaah".  Doing a good job at keeping the weight off and even loosing a little at a time.

FEBRUARY

24  This isn't good.  It's time to go to Vegas and I'm at 187.  Don't think I'll be loosing weight in Vegas.

15  A couple weeks of running and my weight is slowly going down.

Last year at this time I was at the very beginning of loosing almost 60 pounds.  It's time to re-dedicate myself to the goal of getting below 170, and eventually 167.  The goal is 165.  This will be 70 pounds from 235.   You can keep up with my progess here.

01  Starting out at exactly 190 pounds.  To make my goal, 25 pounds have to go.  Let's get it on!

NOVEMBER 2001 - JANUARY 2002

Have had no real problems maintaining the weight, which is really good.  I have been keeping my weight between 182 - 192.  Right now (26Jan02) I am at 187.  I have started playing basketball on Saturday mornings at the YMCA.  That makes it three times a week.

JULY - OCTOBER

I basically laid off real exercise except for basketball all summer.  My weight did get up to 192 in October.   Honestly, I am real proud of myself to keep it that low despite the lack of commitment.

JUNE

22   Did not make my goal of 170.  This morning I weighed in at 174, which is a total weight loss of 58.  This is my lowest weight in 15 years.  Guess my next goal will be to get under 170 by the 20th of July, which would be the six-month anniversary of my commitment.  If...no WHEN I make it, then I would have loss almost 65 pounds.  The lowest weight 15 years ago was 167.

15   Down to 178 again.  Appear to be stuck there.  7 Days to loose 8lbs.  Hmmm.

10   I have Twelve Days to get to my goal of 170.  Starting today I am going to re-dedicate myself to this goal.  Besides, I have my annual Physical Exam on the 22nd.  It would be fantastic to reach the goal.

05   Conference in Portland, Oregon.  This shouldn't mess my goal too much.

MAY

29   Appears that I now have a minor sinus infection.  Running is out of the question in this condition.  Hope to get back on track this weekend.

28   The trip to Reno has ruined my schedule.  Those "All-You-Can-Eat" buffets should not be allowed.  In three days I have gained 7 lbs to 184.  Nothing that can't be taken care of...

24   A new official low of 177 has been reached.  Total loss: 55 Pounds.

17   For the second time in a week, my weight has reached 178lbs.

10   After a few days of getting back into the exercise groove, my weight is now at it's lowest point yet at 178.  That's now a mere 8 pounds from my Phase Two goal.   Will keep the goal date at June 20th, though.

05   Getting back from Anchorage and not being able to exercise or run for 4 days allowed my weight to go back up to 185.  But no worry.  No travel plans in the near future, so I can focus on phase II.

APRIL

30   If it's not the travel, it's the weather.  At least I am able to do my other exercises besides running.  Yesterday I took a walk from Darrell and Judy's to where State Highway 202 is closed due to earthquake damage.  Then proceeded to Snoqualmie Falls.  It's still quite a site.  Total distance was less then 4 miles.

25   This traveling does not help my progress.  But I guess if anything, it does stablize my weight.  I did go for a 4-5 mile walk this evening to Spokane's Riverfront park to see the waterfall and other sights.

20   The three month anniversary.  Weighed in at 186, two pounds from the goal.  Was not able to do any running or exercises because of my trip to Salem.  However I have set a NEW GOAL.  That new goal will be to get my weight down to 170.  Added a new chart that has the each pound listed, instead of every second pound. The New Goal is on the chart as an Orange line.  The New Goal will be to loose 16 pounds by June 20th.  Two months.  Another goal will be to put an Inch on my biceps.

18   Kept below 184 for the second day.  Today was 182.

14   Since reaching my first goal of 184, it's time to re-evaluate and set another goal.  However, I will wait a week before coming to any conclusions.  Let's first see if I can stabilize my weight at around 184.  Then on the 20th (my three month anniversary) I will set a new goal.

13   Officially achieved my goal of 184lbs.  Actually was 183 this morning.

05   Got to 188lbs for the second time.  It didn't take long to get the good stuff from the weekend out of the system.

02   What a way to ruin a good thing.  On the 1st, went to a birthday party and ate way too much, then today Chong made my favorite "Hawaiian Chicken", which also took a toll.

MARCH

30   I was under 190lbs for the first time.  188 and falling.

29   Started what I would call "phase III" of my quest.  If you look at the chart, there have been three periods of minimal weight loss.  That's because of slacking off in some of the exercise I've been doing.  Today I'm starting to maximize the workouts, runs, and other things.

27   Played Basketball at the Y in Seattle for the first time.  It turned out to be a good time. There are quite a few other things to do at the Y.  Seven floors.

23   Started running again.  Got a membership into the YMCA that will allow me to go to both the Kitsap and downtown Seattle Y's.   I plan on playing basketball on Tuesday and Thursday at Noon in Seattle.  It's been quite a while since I've done that.   Weight:  190.  Total loss:  42.

22  Was able to do the 30-10-30 stairs twice today.

19  Re-Sprained my right ankle.  Can't do the stairs or run.

16  Sprained my right ankle playing basketball.  This is a set-back to running and doing the stairs.   Weight: 192.  Total Loss: 40.

10  I have finally beat my 13-year weight mark.
Weight:  196.  Total loss: 36.  Time to focus on the 185lb mark!

05  Hit 200lbs for the first time in over 3 years.

04  Ran 6 miles today.  This included 4 laps around the track and two blocks.
Weight: 202.  Total Loss: 30

03  I over-indulged at an "all you can eat" restaurant in Marysville.  Sigh.

FEBRUARY

27  Started getting up 3:30am to do my weight exercises.
Weight: 208.  Total Loss: 24

26  Went to Walmart to get some weights for my bench.

18  Did the two-block run for the first time.  This totaled 4.7 miles with no laps.
Weight: 210.  Total Loss: 22

14  Did 4 laps on the run for the first time.  Total of 4 miles.

05  On my run, I went to the track at the Jr. High School for the first time.  Did two laps and ended up running 3.5 miles.

JANUARY

30  Made the decision to really work at this.  Started doing the stairs at work.  Going from the 30th floor down to 10 and then back up to 30.  Hope to do this at least once every day.  After work, I ran the BIG BLOCK.  This run totals 2.7 miles.

25  Did my first run away from the Loop.  Went to Foster, cut to Conifer then up to Central Valley and back.  About 1 1/2 miles.

20  Started running around the "loop".  The loop is less then a half mile.  Can I keep this up?

12  Started playing noon basketball at the Kitsap YMCA.  I can only play about two times every three weeks as I can take days off work.

04  Got a weight bench for my 41st birthday (Jan 3rd).  The weight bench looks like it can be effective.  But no weights.  Duh.
