Jobs while in High School
As with many people back in the 70's, I had a few jobs in High School. Today, a teen would look at you as if you were from another planet if mentioning a job after school.
While attending High School in Orofino, Idaho, these are the jobs that I had:
Kehler's Tree Farm. Peck, Idaho
The Tree Farm is located on U.S. 12, about a mile west of the Peck turnoff. The job was on consistant. I would work three or four weekends in a row, then there would be no work for a while. I worked at the Tree Farm from 1976 to 1978.
Did everything you can think about that relates to trees. I planted, replanted, trimmed, sprayed, packed, and shipped them. All kinds of trees, from evergreens to fruit. It was an interesting job, however it was hard work at times. Being a teenager, working (mostly) on Saturdays and Sundays, I could think of a million other things to do. The owner of the Tree Farm was an outstanding person to work for.
Les Schwab, Orofino, Idaho
| Worked mainly as a
"Janitor". Cleaned up after the real workers. I very seldom worked
with Tires, except moving them around, cleaning them up, and getting them for people.
I did spend some time studding tires. I worked at the Tire Center after school and during some weekends of my Junior year. |

Orofino Newspaper
I was a reporter with the paper. I covered Orofino High School basketball games for the town newspaper, which came out every Thursday. Traveled with the team, and took an old clunky black and white camera. The camera took good pictures, though. I was allowed to take 10 or so photos of each game. I wrote up a brief synopsis of the game and submitted them. I did this my senior year.
