Charpy's Time in the Navy

I signed up to join the Navy in October 1977, during my Senior Year in High School.  Enrolled in the "Delayed Entry Program", which allowed my time between Oct 77 and the time I actually joined to count as time in the Navy.  I chose the rate of "Radioman".

On July 5th, 1978 we drove from Peck, Idaho to Spokane, Washington and was dropped off in front of the Navy Recruiting Center.    The Navy paid for a motel room, which I stayed for two days.  This was to accommodate the "check in" schedule.

Myself and a group of others were then flown to San Diego on July 7th.  San Diego is one of the three Navy Recuit Training Centers.    We had a Navy Bus waiting for us, and were whisked away to "Boot Camp".

Boot Camp was unique, as anyone would tell you.   Guess what?  I have PICTURES from Boot Camp!

After Boot Camp, I went to Radioman "A" School.  My first Duty Station was in Portsmouth, NH.  My next orders were to Bahrain.  Bahrain is in the Persian Gulf.  After Bahrain, I had served my four years and opted to get out.
